In War . . .

In war,

do not wage war.

In fighting,

do not wage fighting.

Instead,

wage harmonization.

I like this one…and it’s such a key aspect of our school in many ways. Even though we train to defend ourselves, we are also training to NOT have to defend ourselves. To train for victory over ourselves teaches us to be humble and let go of ego. We can then possibly defuse a situation rather than escalate it. We are comfortable in ourselves and don’t feel a need to prove how strong we are or to defeat another person. This goes for a non-physical encounter as well. With respect and patience, we can perhaps come to a peaceful resolution rather than conflict.

I have to deal with this concept a lot at the bar. I told my wife the other night after breaking up a fight, and draging some guy out into the street. “I’ve got in the middle of/ broke up 20 different situations in this place, and Ive never thrown a punch. Thats how good my Kung Fu is!”
