Clarity of Mindset

There is this whimsical thought that one can mix and mash any style together through being creative and become better martial artists and fighters. This is seriously flawed thinking in my opinion. Technique represent more than just “hit him this way.” Technique, and the style it is embraced by, is not simply physical movement but, inclusively, it is a representation of theory — mindset and body mechanics. A martial art is a system of theory; it is based on clear and crisp principles of thinking — approach — mental and physical structures — a system of thought beyond the simple aspect of a physical technique. This thought must remain clear and be well understood.

If you mix styles carelessly, you mix the mindset behind them carelessly; your actions of self defense will arise from your deep self carelessly — what you train inward, is what comes out: put chaos in, chaos will come out when under the serious pressure of self protection. Any approach outside of this understanding could easily confuse the clarity of  your mindset and therefore, confuse the clarity of  your self defense.

Peace and Blessings!
