The One Hand Sets Up The Other

The one hand sets up the other.

Either set up the feet.

The one foot sets up the other.

either set up the hands.

Generally,

the hands set up the feet…

the feet set up the hands.

Integration

Coordination

Such a simple sounding concept, but what a lifetime of study this brings about! I can see why you encourage us all to train slowly and to really see how things are working instead of rushing through. That is why I enjoy Tai Chi so much, because it forces us to slow down and really look for ideas such as these.

    Thanks

Indeed, this is a very Taoist concept- the idea of hands balancing the feet, the right setting up the left, opposites acting in harmony. Concepts follow that we have been taught for years- avoiding double weighting, spool & spindle, hitting low then high, sink float- it begs the question, is duality the source of greater chi?

I agree with Adam, Tai chi has helped me in so many ways to study my forms. Each move sets up the next move like a chess game. And I love what Mark says, “opposites acting in harmony.” When all things flow together, you feel the strength in your soul
